For those wishing to see the great peaks of the Everest area including Everest's north and Kangshung faces, Chomolonzo, Makalu, and many more without actually climbing them, this is the trip. After acclimatizing in the Rongphuk basecamp, climbers move to the base of the Lhakpa La. After climbing a 400 meter ice wall the top of the pass is reached at 6,849 meters. From here we will have unparalleled views of all of the above mentioned peaks. The option of attempting Peak 6,883 from the top of the pass will be available to us. We then begin our descent onto the Kharta glaciers of Everest's east face. The glacier deposits us in the beautiful high pastures of the upper Kharta valley. This traverse is sure to become a favorite side trip for mountaineers climbing in the Everest area. Presently the route has seen very few visitors and thus remains in a pristine state.
