Unclimbed Peaks of the Tsangpo Gorge

Duration: 25 days
Months offered: Spring, Fall
Costs: From $5, 000

The mountains of the Tsangpo gorge represent one of the densest concentrations of unclimbed, unexplored peaks in the world. The tortuous bends of the Tsangpo river and nearby Po Tsangpo have cut river gorges through these peaks like no other on earth. The highest peak of the region is Mt. Namche Barwa-7,782 meters. Surrounding this peak are over 15 unclimbed 6,000 meter satellite peaks. Further east in the Kangri Karpo range, perhaps 30 unclimbed and unnamed peaks await climbers with altitudes up to 6800 meters. The tribal and Tibetan cultures that have existed in the lush valleys beneath these ranges add a fascinating cultural aspect to these expeditions. This region and the exploratory nature of the climbing is the absolute antithesis to the mob scene that flocks yearly to the Everest-Cho Oyo-Shishapangma region.
