For those short on time, High Asia has designed several tours which allow participants to view some of the more outstanding sites of cultural interest in Tibet, as well as the major peaks of the Everest region. These tours are guided by experts in Tibetan culture. Tour length can be customized to fit your schedule, but generally run between 8 and 14 days. Groups usually meet in either Chengdu, Sichuan PRC or Kathmandu, Nepal and then fly up to Lhasa. In Lhasa we visit the 'must see' sights; the Potala Palace and Norbulingka, winter and summer residences of the Dalai Lama. Tibet's most ancient temple the Jokang, as well as Drepung and Sera monasteries. From Lhasa we depart for Shigatse and Gyantse. In Shigatse we visit Tashilhunpo monastery and in Gyantse we visit the Palkor Chode and Kumbum. From here we move south towards Everest. Before reaching Everest we spend a night at Jonang Phuntsoling, an ancient monastery containing some of Tibet's finest wall murals. From Jonang we drive to Rongbuk monastery at the foot of Everest's stupendous north face. The north face of Everest is one of our planets most unforgettable spots. Our visit includes short treks to the Rongbuk glacier and other spots of interest. From Everest we either drive back to the airport for departure to Chengdu, or continue by landcruiser passed some of the other highest peaks in the world to the Nepal border and on to Kathmandu.
