Kingdom of Muli/Konkaling Peaks (Sichuan)

Duration: 14 days
Months offered: Year round
Costs: From $2,000

The Kingdom of Muli, located in SW Kham in Sichuan province, is an area of vast grassland, high plateau, and glaciated mountains. The area is home to 22 of China's 56 minority peoples. The region contains some of the last great stands of old growth forest left in Sichuan. In the late 1920s, American explorer Joseph Rock, ventured here and discovered a group of three peaks more stunning than any he had ever beheld. The peaks are known to Tibetans as the Konka Risumgonpo or the Konkaling peaks. The three peaks Chenrezig, Chanadorje, and Jampayang are named after and believed to contain the essences of three bodhisattvas of the same names. Like Mt. Kailash they are circumambulated by Tibetans from near and far.. Our goal is to travel through Kham to its border with Muli Tibetan Autonomous region and enter into the Konkaling mountain sanctuary. We will travel around the three peaks stopping at several monasteries enroute completing our trek on the wildflower strewn alpine pastures in the middle of the three mountains. Upon leaving the area we will have the option of returning through Yunnan province or heading back through Kham. Ask about the option to include the Gyalthang or Lithang horse festivals on this trip as well. Contact us for more information on this trip.
