![]() Mountain Biking in the Everest Region of Tibet Duration: 2 weeks High Asia has designed several mountain biking itineraries which traverse the north slope of the Tibetan Himalaya just east of the Mt. Everest region. The routes we have chosen range in difficulty from moderate to arduous. All trips can be lengthened or shortened depending on group interest. The core of our route traverses the northern Sikkim/Tibet border along dirt roads which pass several little known monasteries, hermitages, and range upon range of breathtaking 6,000 and 7,000 meter peaks. Our route begins at Sakya monastery and ends near a pass that accesses the Kharta and Rongphuk valleys of Everest's east and north faces. While riding we will be assisted by vehicles which can be ridden in at any point. This is a unique way to visit a part of Tibet which remains virtually unexplored. Because of inferior quality of local bikes, we recommend cyclists bring their own, though High Asia can arrange adequate bikes in Tibet at some extra expense.
