'Chang Tang'.....to those who have been there, these words are the stuff
of dreams. Chang Tang is Tibetan for 'northern plains'. It refers to
a landmass roughly the size of Europe populated by scattered nomad communities,
amazingly diverse wildlife, peaks and empty high desert. Sven Hedin,
and Capt. H.P.P. Deasy were two of the 19 th -20 th century's most active
explorers in the region. Their journals are the only guides we have used
over the last 10 years of guiding in the region. At the dawn of the 21
st century it is the largest expanse of true wilderness left in Asia
. Our expeditions offer the chance to see some of Asia 's last herds
of highly endangered Tibetan Antelope, Gazelle and Kiang. Black neck
crane and host of other rare birds all take refuge in this high desert
wilderness. Our expeditions are often broken into optional trekking and/or
climbing components. Treks are supported by nomads and their yak. Though
much can be seen from a landcruiser, there is no substitute for actually
walking through the landscape. Climbs usually focus on smaller 6,000
meter peaks that are technically not difficult. These expeditions are
almost always customized to fit the needs of small groups. Contact
us for more information.
