Unexplored Peaks and Valleys East of Everest: Eric Shipton's Unknown Ame Drime Range

Duration: 2-3 weeks
Months offered: May-June / August thru October
Costs: From $4,000

Eric Shipton was one of the early 20th century's greatest explorers. He took part in and led several of the 1930s Everest expeditions. One walked to Everest from Sikkim in those days. It occurred to him that one of the ranges that had to be laboriously circumnavigated by climbers burning with Everest fever, itself offered immense mountaineering, trekking and exploration potential. The Ame Drime range turned out to be just that. Shipton ended up blowing the 1935 Everest attempt because of lingering too long in this enchanted range of unnamed, unclimbed peaks, stunning valleys and alpine lakes. He never made it back to the range-and to the best of our knowledge-no one has since him. Our aim is to drive to this beautiful range via the newly opened Khampa Xian region of Tibet , and hike through the range into the Kharta valley. Options for extending this trek to include hikes to Everest's east (Kangshung) face are open as well. Contact us for more details on this new trek in Tibet .
