Rare and Endangered Animals of Sichuan: A Glimpse of What Remains

Duration: 3 weeks
Months offered: Year round
Costs: From $3,000

Sichuan province contains wildlife refuges for some of our planet's most endangered species. The Giant Panda quickly comes to mind, but included on this list is the Golden Monkey, Sikas Deer, Snow Leopard, Red Panda, Blue Sheep, and many more. Various bird species are also making a stand in Sichuan including the Golden, White-eared, and Reeves species of pheasant, the Black-necked crane and the Crimson-bellied Tragopan. High Asia is offering custom bird and animal spotting expeditions, guided by professional Naturalists, in some of Sichuan's wildlife reserves, and areas where certain species are known to exist but not protected. These treks take us through valleys flanked by the 6,000 meter summits of the Qionglai mountains, and into bamboo thickets, and forests of Rhododendron. Treks can be limited to day hikes or extended to multi-day fully supported treks to reach more remote areas. Because of the elusive character of many of these species, a minimum of 2-3 weeks will be needed. These expeditions give one a rare opportunity to glimpse a part of China's wild heritage while it still exists. It is our hope that this sort of tourism will lead to continued promotion of wildlife conservation, and help halt the incessant encroachment of agricultural cultivation on wildlife habitat in China.
