![]() Art and Architecture of Central Tibet Duration: 3 weeks Scattered throughout central Tibet are magnificent works of Buddhist art and architecture. Though Tibet has been open to tourists for nearly fifteen years, there are still many wonderful works of art that are little known and even less visited. High Asia has designed tours of some of these sites which can include landcruiser destinations, trekking destinations, or a combination of both. Our tour takes in some of the "must sees" in the Lhasa area before heading out to our more remote sites. Included on our itinerary are the unique 14th century Newari style wall murals of Shalu monastery, the Palkor Chode temple, the Khumbum and Gyantse castle in Gyantse, the wall murals of Sakya monastery, the recently discovered Chung Riwoche chorten built by the 15 century engineer/saint Thangtong Gyalpo, and the remains of three works of architectural genius: the Jonang, Gyang Bumoche, and Jampaling Kumbums. For those interested, short treks can be included to and around these sites. These tours offer those interested in the art and architecture of Tibets past, a chance to take in some of the finest remaining examples.
