![]() Sea Kayaking in the Mergui Archipelago
Duration:
7-14 days
The Mergui Archipelago is located in the Andaman Sea close to the Thai border. Several large islands were turned into a reserve with the help of the Wildlife Conservation Society. The Archipelago is composed of roughly 800 islands. Many or these have never been thoroughly explored. Incredibly diverse wildlife exists in this tropical world of tiny white sand beach islands. There is no permanent human habitation on any of the islands. Yet, a group of fisher people called the Moken,(aka 'the Sea Gypsies') have spent the last several hundred years moving slowly among the islands living off the ocean's bounty. Our goal is to move like the Moken from remote inlet to remote beach, island to island by sea kayak. Our home base is a 60 ft deluxe yacht. We will use this boat to ferry us longer distances between islands and as a place to eat and sleep when we are not camping. This island chain is truly one of the most pristine archipelagos left in Asia . Unfortunately many large developers in Thailand are eyeing the area for serious development. We highly recommend visiting this area soon before this change begins. Contact us for more information on sea kayaking in the Mergui Archipelago.
