In
search of an unclimbed peak or an unrafted river, a new trekking route
where you will see no other foreigner? Interested in being the first into
an unopened area in a Himalayan borderland? Are you in pursuit of a rare
alpine wildflower or a glimpse of the elusive snow leopard? Well then,
welcome to the world of High Asia Exploratory Mountain Travel Co. Pursuit
of such raw experience is our raison d'etre. The joy we have experienced
on the summits of nameless peaks in western Tibet or over a cup of butter
tea with a Buddhist mountain hermit or stumbling upon a hillside of blossoming
giant blue poppy is hard to express in words. That joy is best experienced
first hand.
We are constantly offering variations on our tours, treks and climbs
that transform tried and true routes into totally new experiences. We
also have created dozens of new treks in Asia's last remote wildernesses
such as NE Bhutan, West Tibet's Chang Tang wilderness, NE India's Arunachal
Pradesh and Northern Burma's Hkakborazi wilderness.
Exploratory
journeys are not predictable and not always comfortable. The true explorers
of the 19th and 20th centuries were constantly encountering challenges
that required all of their resourcefulness. We highly recommend you
read some of the works by the three men pictured above in order to
get a taste at home of pleasures and discomforts of exploration. Captain
H.P.P Deasy was one of the first explorers of Tibet's Chang Tang wilderness.
Frank Kingdon Ward will always be in a league of his own. His plant
hunting exploits in Tibet, India and Burma were some of the most intrepid
expeditions ever undertaken. Aruel Stein's explorations of Xinjiang,
Gansu and the Kun Lun mountains of China are equally impressive. Please
