This has always been Bhutan's most popular trekking route. Yet, in seven years of guiding it, we have passed other trekkers only once while on the trail. The combination of vast alpine meadows, towering Himalayan summits, and quaint Bhutanese villages little changed since the 10 century C.E. make this one of the finest in the eastern Himalaya. This is the only trek we have guided where participants have captured on video footage of a snow leopard. The abundance of such mythical creatures is a testament to Bhutan's successful conservation efforts. The trek includes an optional, but highly recommended extension to the Masagang basecamp area east of Laya. The Masagang region is one of Bhutan's most beautiful mountain arenas where the glaciers of Masagang, Teri Kang and Tsenda Kang all converge near a series of alpine lakes.
