Bhutan Immersion (With Optional Sikkim extension)

Duration: 7-10 days
Year round departures
Costs: From $2,500

For those interested in seeing some of the most renowned sites of Bhutanese culture, without a substantial time commitment, this is the tour for you. We begin in Paro by thoroughly exploring the villages, dzongs, monasteries and shrines of this fascinating valley. The trip then moves on to Thimphu where we visit Simtokha Dzong, Tashichoedzong, the antique markets and Cheri monastery. The last stage of the journey takes us to Punakha with visits to the labyrinth-like Punakha Dzong-summer home of the national monastic body led by Bhutan's spiritual head the Je Khenpo. We then visit Chimmi Lhakang. This tiny temple built on a hillock overlooking pastoral scene out of the middle ages, is outwardly Buddhist, but actually pagan in practice. Chimmi Lhakang was founded by Drukpa Kunley, a 'crazy wisdom' master of 15th century. He was known for his 'enlightened promiscuities' and other non-traditional means of teaching Vajrayana Buddhism. Today the temple is visited by men and women suffering from any sort of infertility-and has an amazingly high success rate is curing such ills! We end our journey back in Paro for a final night before departing the country. This tour, like all of our Bhutan tours, is scheduled differently each year to coincide with Tsechu festivals. There is also the option to add a Sikkim extension to either end of this tour. Contact us for more details.
